Kids get involved in everything that creates a sense of curiosity in them. Let’s guide them to nurture a houseplant and they will enjoy watching the plant growing and flowering. Like your pets, these houseplants can also be your kid’s best friends.
Kids get attached to things very soon. It would not be a nice experience to get your kid acquainted with a new green friend and see it die after a few days. Therefore, while searching for houseplants for kids, look for plants that demand less watering, less sunlight and are trouble-free. There are several house plants that look great but do not require too much care.
Gerbera Jamesonii
Children would love this plant for their large beautiful flowers that can add a positive vibe to their bedrooms or study rooms. This house plant requires partial sunlight. If you have a window in your kid’s room, gerbera jamesonii would love to be at that spot. This plant is available in different colourful varieties of flowers. So, you can choose the one that would complement the interior of your kid’s room or maybe, you can get more than one variety to make your little one adore the colourful ambiance.
Boston fern
This beautiful house plant with strings of tiny leaves grows well in cool places with high humidity. You can plant it in a fancy pot and place it in a spot where it can enjoy indirect sunlight. You can get colourful pebbles and get along with the kid to decorate the fern. You need to check the soil every day and if the soil has dried out, water the plant immediately. It grows well in soil that remains damped.
ZZ Plants
ZZ Plants are one of the long-living indoor plants capable of surviving in tough conditions. With stems that look like strings of dark green small leaves complement the interior décor, if planted in creative pots. It does not require too much water and is less prone to pest infestation. Due to the presence of calcium oxalate in its leaves, it’s mildly toxic. Therefore, if you have young kids, keep them away from the plant.
Spider Plants
As the name says, this house plant looks like spiderettes. At a glance it looks like spiderettes dangling down the pot, rendering curiosity in your little one. To enjoy the delightful view of this plant, you could hang the plant on a wall, allowing it to dangle down the pot. It’s completely non-toxic and hence safe. It requires a moderate amount of water and grows well in light sunlight.
Lucky Bamboo
It’s one of the easiest house plants that your kid can grow. The interesting part here is, it does not require soil at all. You can fill water in any glass and put the stems of lucky bamboo in it. Make sure that you fill water till the roots of the plant are filled. According to Chinese culture, lucky bamboo radiates positive energy and therefore, it would be a great plant to be placed in your kid’s living or studying area.
